Preventive & General Dentistry

Most of the conditions that negatively affect your smile can be avoided with regular care. The Garner Dental Group team is committed to answering your questions about proper hygiene and providing you with the most advanced preventive dentistry.

Oral Health Exams

An oral examination is an essential part of your routine check-up. Your dentist with Garner Dental Group will evaluate the health of your teeth, gums, and entire mouth. They look for signs of cavities, gum disease, oral infections, and other abnormalities, and use X-rays to detect hidden issues. This quick and painless assessment helps identify problems early, ensuring timely treatment and maintaining overall oral health.

Radiographs (X-rays)

We use digital X-ray technology to detect concerns that may not be visible during an oral exam.

Digital imaging allows us to:

-  Identify cavities between teeth
-  Monitor bone levels and gum health
-  Evaluate impacted or developing teeth
-  Detect infections or other hidden issues

Digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film and provide clear, immediate images to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Professional Cleaning

Professional cleanings remove plaque and tartar buildup that cannot be eliminated with brushing and flossing alone. We also provide personalized recommendations to help you maintain excellent oral hygiene at home.

Fluoride Varnish

Fluoride treatments help strengthen tooth enamel and protect against cavities. This treatment is beneficial for children and adults who may be at higher risk for decay.

Sealants

Dental sealants are thin protective coatings placed on the chewing surfaces of molars to prevent bacteria and food particles from collecting in deep grooves. Sealants are especially helpful for children and teens, but can benefit cavity-prone adults as well.

Pediatric Care

We recommend your child should first see a dentist by their first birthday or within 6 months after their first tooth appears—whichever comes first. Early visits help ensure teeth are developing properly, allow the dentist to check for any early signs of decay, and give parents guidance on brushing, diet, and habits such as thumb-sucking. Starting dental care early also helps your child feel comfortable at the dentist, setting the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health.

Periodontal Therapy

Fifty percent of all adults have some form of Periodontal Disease, often without realizing it. Periodontal disease is chiefly responsible for adult tooth loss, bleeding gums, bad breath, and receding gums. The truth is, the disease is easily prevented with proper hygiene, appropriate home care, and professional treatment. If diagnosed early, periodontal disease treatments are easier, less invasive, and more effective.

Signs and symptoms of periodontal disease include:

Red, swollen, or tender gums
-  Bleeding while brushing or flossing
-  Receding gums
-  Persistent bad breath
-  Loose or shifting teeth
-  Pus between teeth and gums
-  Changes in bite or fit of partial dentures

Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer screenings are an important part of every comprehensive dental exam. We carefully examine the soft tissues of the mouth, tongue, throat, and surrounding areas for any abnormalities.
